According to the central bank, the banks in deficit are - Islami Bank, Exim Bank, National Bank, First Security Islami Bank, Social Islami Bank, Union Bank, Commerce Bank, Padma Bank and ICB Islami Bank.
Among these, five banks have completed guarantee agreements with Bangladesh Bank to overcome the liquidity crisis. The contracted banks are - National Bank, First Security Islami Bank, Social Islami Bank, Union Bank and Commerce Bank. Besides, Islami Bank and Exim Bank have applied to Bangladesh Bank for guarantee agreement. But no deal yet. Bangladesh Bank can sign guarantee agreement with two banks today. On the other hand, Padma and ICB Islami Bank have not applied for the guarantee agreement so far.
An official of Bangladesh Bank said that good banks will provide special assistance to the banks of the country facing liquidity crisis by lending money and in this case Bangladesh Bank will guarantee the loan money. The central bank will also decide how much money these banks will lend and help. Bangladesh Bank has signed such loan guarantee agreement with five banks facing liquidity crisis. These banks will get special loans from the interbank money market for a fixed period.
Regarding the liquidity assistance, Husnay Ara Shikha said that it has not yet been decided when the assistance will be received. But only when banks agree to lend money, they will get help. Regarding the amount of money borrowed, he said, the amount of money borrowed cannot be said now. It will be fixed later.
