Bangladesh Bank is going to cancel the requirement of diploma degree for promotion of bankers. Bangladesh Bank is going to take such a decision in view of the letter of Institute of Bankers Bangladesh (IBB) to the central bank whether to keep banking diploma for promotion or not.
According to sources, in the last Governing Council of IBB, IBB President and Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Ahsan H Mansoor, voted in favor of canceling the banking diploma for promotion.
By February 2023, passing of Diploma in Banking has been made mandatory for the promotion of bank officers to senior officers and above. At that time, the central bank said, to increase the skills, qualifications and capabilities of bank officials
For promotion to the next post of senior officer or senior officer of the bank, two-stage banking diploma pass has been made mandatory. However, this obligation was later relaxed in July of the same year.
In a circular issued at that time, the central bank said that senior or high-ranking officials who were appointed or promoted before the banking diploma was made mandatory, will not need a banking diploma. However, after obtaining a promotion, a diploma will be required for promotion to any subsequent level. At the same time, the Central Bank has made it mandatory for officers not associated with banking activities to pass banking diploma for promotion to any department associated with general banking activities.
