About 450 students from 140 universities from more than 50 countries of the world participated in it. Among them, Dhaka University (DU) has been ranked 56th. Besides, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Shabiprobi) has been ranked 70th and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has been ranked 115th.
A total of 12 problems are given to be solved in the final phase of this year's ICPC. Peking University of China became the first in the entire competition by solving 9 of these problems. Russia's Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and China's Tsinghua University came second and third by solving the same amount of problems. They finished second and third in time gap despite solving equal number of problems.
Dhaka University (DU) became the runner-up in 'Asia-West' i.e. West Asia by solving five problems in this competition. Tehran's Sharif University of Technology has become the champion in this region. They solved 7 problems. Shabipro also solved 5 problems, while Quett solved three problems.
International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), the world's most prestigious olympiad of programming, is organized every year specially for programming among young students. This programming competition is very prestigious for university level students. It is also called World Cup of Programming.
This year's ICPC is organized by the Kazakhstan Competitive Programming Federation; Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, US-based organization Freedom Holding Corp and ICPC Foundation.
The journey of ICPC started from 1970. However, from 1977 to 2017, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), one of the largest and oldest organizations in computer scientific research, was in charge of this organization.
